The Careers Education Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) curriculum here at King’s Leadership Phoenix Academy is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to make informed choices about their future pathways. Starting from Year 7, the curriculum focuses on developing self-awareness, understanding personal strengths, and exploring a range of career options. Through a combination of classroom learning, practical workshops, and exposure to a variety of industries, students build a foundational understanding of the world of work. We aim to inspire curiosity and encourage early engagement with future career possibilities, while fostering critical skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
As students progress from Year 8 to Year 11, the CEIAG curriculum intensifies in its focus on personal development and real-world application. By Year 11, students engage in more targeted exploration of post-16 options, including vocational courses, apprenticeships, and further education pathways. Tailored guidance, bespoke learning and one-on-one career counselling, helps students to make confident, informed decisions about their next steps. Our overarching aim is to ensure that by the end of Year 11, all students have a clear, individualised progression plan and are equipped with the skills and resilience to navigate their future career journeys, regardless of the challenges they may have faced in their educational journey.
All year 11 students will have specific timetabled lessons dedicated to CIEAG, as well as access to a Careers Advisor who will visit school and support them, alongside us, in preparation for their futures.
Careers Information Education, Advice and Guidance at King’s Leadership Phoenix Academy is a progressive journey from Year 7-11. The aim of our CIEAG curriculum are:
Equip students with the knowledge and skills for the world of work: To develop practical employability skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, while fostering an understanding of various career options and pathways locally, nationally and internationally.
Foster self-awareness and personal development: To guide students in recognising their strengths, interests, and areas for growth, empowering them to make informed decisions about their future education and career options. This includes a comprehensive understanding of post 16 and post 18 traineeships, technical education qualifications, apprenticeships, HE, FE, employment and training opportunities.
Ensure access to meaningful experiences and opportunities: To provide students with exposure to the working world through mentoring, and engagement with employers, helping them build connections and gain insights into different industries and professions.
Students within all year groups, 7-11, will study at least one careers based unit of work as a part of their PSHE programme. This will be internally assessed and each student will be given a certificate to show they have completed this Unit Award from AQA.
Year 11 will complete additional careers focussed Units of Work as a part of their careers programme of study. They will be given recognised qualifications for the completion of each unit from AQA.
