Humanities: Curriculum Intent

Key Stage 4

At KS4, the Humanities curriculum focuses on Geography and History at King's Leadership Phoenix Academy, It aims to inspire a curiosity about the world and the past. Our curriculum, designed in line with the WJEC Entry Pathways Qualifications, is tailored to meet the needs of all learners, particularly those working at Entry Level 2 and 3, ensuring accessibility and engagement for students of varying abilities. Through the study of Geography and History, students will develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a deeper understanding of the physical and human worlds, as well as the social, economic, and political factors that have shaped the past and present.

Our intent is to foster a love for learning, cultivate a sense of place and time, and equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to become informed, active citizens. We aim to provide opportunities for learners to explore both global and local contexts, develop empathy, and gain a sense of responsibility for the environment and society.

Key Stage 3

At KS3, the Humanities curriculum (Geography and History) is designed to provide students with a broad and deep understanding of both subjects in a way that aligns with the National Curriculum. The intent is to ensure that students are well-prepared for further study and have the knowledge and skills necessary to become informed and engaged citizens. The chosen topics not only meet the statutory requirements but also reflect themes and concepts that students will encounter throughout their education journey, making it highly relevant and impactful for future academic progression.
